Notes

'Songster' peony (Paeonia 'Songster') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, cottage gardens, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist, loamy soil. Its bright red blooms have ruffled petals and open in early to late spring. Derek Irvine bred it in 2001. It is not a favorite of deer or rabbits, though hungry ones will eat almost anything.

Pairs well with False indigo, Big bluestem, and Niobe clematis.
