Notes

'Sophie' peony (Paeonia 'Sophie') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, cottage gardens, and specimen planting. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. The fragrant cherry-red flowers have three to four rows of satiny petals, and Denis Germain Dauvesse bred it in 1940. It sits low on the menu for deer and rabbits. Bees and butterflies visit the blooms.

Pairs well with Big Daddy hosta, Switchgrass, and Stargazer lily.
