Notes

Spring starflower (Ipheion uniflorum) is a bulb for borders, rock gardens, and naturalized areas. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average moisture. It forms a clumping mound of blue-green leaves that grows 3 to 6 inches tall and spreads quickly. The fragrant pale to dark blue flowers open in spring, and the plant tolerates drought.

Pairs well with Blue-eyed grass, Japanese forest grass, and Coralbells.

Native range

Uruguay, Argentina, and Chile.
