Notes

'Sunsation' magnolia (Magnolia 'Sunsation') is a tree for specimen planting, borders, and cottage gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It forms a mid-sized tree with a uniform, pyramidal shape. Six inch yellow flowers with deep pink at the base open in spring, even on young trees. This is the latest yellow magnolia to bloom, which keeps buds safe from late frosts.

Pairs well with Japanese forest grass, Blue Mouse Ears hosta, and Ornamental onion.
