Notes

'The Chief' rose (Rosa 'The Chief') is a shrub for borders, cut flowers, containers, and cottage gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 6, or down to -10°F (-23°C). This plant likes full sun and loamy or clay soil. Its bushy form carries fragrant orange blooms in late spring, early to late summer, and early autumn. Bees visit the flowers. Dr. Walter E. Lammerts bred it in 1940.

Pairs well with Blue wild indigo, Bridal wreath spiraea, and Greig's tulip.
