Notes

'The President' clematis (Clematis 'The President') is a vine for borders, containers, cottage gardens, and specimen use. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist soil of most types. The flowers are purple-blue and attract butterflies, hummingbirds, and bees. Charles Noble bred it in a cross of 'Jackmanii' and 'Lanuginosa'. It is not a favorite of deer or rabbits, though hungry ones will eat almost anything.

Pairs well with Bobo hydrangea, Little bluestem, and Jeana garden phlox.
