Notes

'Uncle Sam' peony (Paeonia 'Uncle Sam') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, and cottage gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. It bears fragrant, dark red single flowers in spring, and bees and butterflies visit the blooms. William Henry Krekler bred it. Deer and rabbits usually look elsewhere for a meal.

Pairs well with Magnus coneflower, Standing Ovation little bluestem, and Nodding onion.
