Notes

'Valkyrie' peony (Paeonia 'Valkyrie') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, cottage gardens, and specimen use. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. It is not a favorite of deer or rabbits, though hungry ones will eat almost anything. Deep maroon-red flowers open in early to late spring, and each stem carries one 6 inch bloom. The plant grows to 34 inches, so you may need to support it when it flowers.

Pairs well with Wide Brim hosta, Limelight hydrangea, and Blue grama.
