Notes

'Vela' peony (Paeonia 'Vela') is a shrub for borders, cut flowers, cottage gardens, and specimen planting. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist, loamy soil. Lavender-pink, semi-double flowers open in early to late spring and face outward on stiff stems like a ship's sails. It is not a favorite of deer or rabbits, though hungry ones will eat almost anything. Nate Bremer bred it.

Pairs well with Cheyenne Spirit echinacea, Bells of Ireland, and Nelly Moser clematis.
