Notes

'Venusta' queen of the prairie (Filipendula rubra 'Venusta') is a perennial for borders and low maintenance gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist, loamy or clay soil. Cloud-like sprays of small pink flowers open from deeper pink buds in early to late summer. Both the flowers and the deeply cut leaves are fragrant, and bees and butterflies visit the blooms. It sits low on the menu for deer and rabbits.

Pairs well with Big Daddy hosta, Gardenia peony, and Shrub rose.
