Notes

'Viking Vanguard' peony (Paeonia 'Viking Vanguard') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, cottage gardens, and specimen plantings. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. Smallish purplish-red single flowers open at the start of the peony season, and good stem strength holds each one erect. Deer and rabbits rarely make it their first choice. Bees and butterflies visit the blooms.

Pairs well with Liberty hosta, Stargazer lily, and Blue grama.
