Notes

'Vulcan' magnolia (Magnolia 'Vulcan') is a shrub for use as a specimen, in a border, near a foundation, and in a pollinator garden. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Its fragrant flowers open in early to late spring in one of the darkest reds, with a subtle white frosting on some petals. Bees and butterflies visit the blooms. The winter buds wear a brownish gray fur.

Pairs well with Japanese forest grass, Lily of the valley, and Silver Edge Japanese pachysandra.
