This plant likes part sun to full shade and average to moist soil. Fragrant red flowers with yellow eyes bloom in early to late spring and attract bees. It is not a favorite of rabbits, though hungry rabbits will eat almost anything. Divide it every three years after blooming to keep it vigorous.
Pairs well with Spring Beauty Siberian squill, American maidenhair fern, and Flore Pleno lily of the valley.
