Notes

Western coneflower (Rudbeckia occidentalis) is a perennial for borders and low maintenance gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full sun and average to moist soil of most types. Yellow and green blooms appear in early to late summer and again in early to late autumn, and butterflies and bees visit them. It is not a favorite of deer, though hungry deer will eat almost anything. The plant is also drought tolerant.

Pairs well with Walther Funcke yarrow, Stonecrop, and Jerusalem sage.
