Notes

Winged elm (Ulmus alata) is a tree for specimen planting, shade gardens, and woodland settings. It is hardy to USDA zone 6, or down to -10°F (-23°C). This plant likes full sun to part shade and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Corky wings line the twigs and give the tree its name. Deer rarely make it their first choice. Give it good air flow, since powdery mildew is common and Dutch elm disease can affect it.

Pairs well with Chinkapin oak, Beautyberry, and Christmas fern.
