Notes

Woodland phlox (Phlox divaricata) is a perennial for shade gardens, woodland gardens, and ground cover. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes part sun to full shade and average to moist soil of most types. Fragrant lavender to violet flowers open in spring, and butterflies visit them. Stems root at the nodes, and the plant self-sows readily to form natural drifts. It is not a favorite of rabbits, though hungry rabbits will eat almost anything.

Pairs well with White trillium, Yellow trout-lily, and Sedge.
