'Ace' peony (Paeonia lactiflora 'Ace') is a perennial for borders, perennial beds, and cut flowers. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. It grows as an erect plant about 33 inches tall. The small Japanese type flowers are dark red and open in early to mid spring. Harry L. Smith bred it.

Pairs well with Spotted dead nettle, Sensitive fern, Picture tulip, and Foxtail barley.
