Notes
'Almost Dark' tree peony (Paeonia suffruticosa 'Almost Dark') is a shrub for borders and cut flowers. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. It bears velvety, dark red, semi-double flowers from mid to late spring into early summer. The blooms sit well in the bush, and the small leaves are light green. John and Dot McFarlane introduced it in 2002.
Pairs well with Elegans hosta, Toad lily, and Anglojap yew.
