Notes

Appalachian valley rose (Rosa palustris) is a shrub for pollinator gardens, rain gardens, and naturalized areas. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and average to wet, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Fragrant pink flowers attract butterflies, bees, and birds. The stems have stout, hooked prickles, so plant it away from paths. It can get fungal problems, so give it good air flow.

Pairs well with Cardinal flower, Joe Pye weed, and Ostrich fern.
