Notes

Joe Pye weed (Eutrochium purpureum) is a perennial for borders, meadows, rain gardens, and pollinator gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and average to wet soil of most types. It is not a favorite of deer, though hungry deer will eat almost anything. Its large, domed heads of pink-lavender flowers smell sweet and draw bees and butterflies by the score. The plant can reach six feet tall.

Pairs well with Goldsturm black-eyed Susan, Royal fern, Little bluestem, and Hummingbird sweet pepperbush.
