Notes

'Bakan-nishiki' tree peony (Paeonia suffruticosa 'Bakan-nishiki') is a shrub for borders, cut flowers, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. Wada bred it in 1937. Its woody stems stay through winter, so you can plant it as a lasting anchor in a mixed bed. Cut the blooms to bring indoors for bouquets.

Pairs well with Siberian iris, Chokeberry, and Ostrich fern.
