Notes

'Banshosho' Japanese black pine (Pinus thunbergii 'Banshosho') is a tree for specimen planting, accents, winter interest, and borders. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full sun and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. This evergreen tolerates drought and salt, and birds visit it. Deer tend to browse other plants first. It grows at a moderate rate to 36 to 60 inches tall and wide, with an irregular shape.

Pairs well with Little bluestem, Mexican hat, and Feather reed grass.
