Notes

'Sayonara' Japanese black pine (Pinus thunbergii 'Sayonara') is a tree for specimen plantings, accents, privacy screens, and winter interest. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full sun and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. This evergreen grows at a moderate rate with an irregular shape, and it tolerates drought and salt. Deer tend to pass it by. Birds visit it, so give it room to show off its form.

Pairs well with Maidenhair tree, Feather reed grass, and Little bluestem.
