Notes

Japanese black pine (Pinus thunbergii) is a tree for specimen planting, accent, privacy screens, and winter interest. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full sun and dry to moist soil of most types. It is evergreen, so it keeps its green needles all year, and it tolerates drought and salt. Deer tend to browse other plants first. Birds visit it, and it grows at a moderate rate into an irregular shape.

Pairs well with Feather reed grass, Green Velvet buxus, and Blazing star.
