Notes

'Battle Flag' peony (Paeonia lactiflora 'Battle Flag') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. The Japanese type flowers have deep glowing red petals and staminodes, with gold on the reverse of the staminodes. Col. Jesse C. Nicholls bred it as a seedling of 'Mikado'.

Pairs well with Woolly yarrow, Stargazer lily, and Ageratum.
