Notes
'Beni-Gaku' mountain hydrangea (Hydrangea serrata 'Beni-Gaku') is a shrub for borders, containers, cottage gardens, and shade gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and average to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It stays smaller than bigleaf hydrangea in size, leaves, and flowers, so it suits small spaces. Bees visit the blooms, and the flower color changes with soil pH.
Pairs well with Beni-Maiko Japanese maple, Wide Brim hosta, and Japanese forest grass.
