Notes
'Benoni' apple (Malus domestica 'Benoni') is a tree for the food garden, grown for fresh eating. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It blooms from early to late spring and attracts bees. The tree crops well but can slip into bearing every other year, so thin the crop heavily in late spring of a heavy year. Mr Mason Richards bred it in the 1830s.
Pairs well with Weigela, Tickseed, and Prairie dropseed.
