Notes

'Black Douglas' peony (Paeonia 'Black Douglas') is a shrub for borders, cottage gardens, specimen planting, and cut flowers. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist, loamy soil. Dark red blooms with brown shading open in early to late spring. A.P. Saunders introduced it in 1948. It sits low on the menu for deer and rabbits.

Pairs well with June hosta, David garden phlox, and Grape hyacinth.
