Notes

'Black Gold' peony (Paeonia 'Black Gold') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, cottage gardens, and specimen planting. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. The semi-double blooms are glossy dark red with a few yellow markings, and bees and butterflies visit the fragrant flowers. Edward Auten, Jr bred it. Deer and rabbits rarely make it their first choice.

Pairs well with Blue Angel hosta, Woodland phlox, and Nodding onion.
