Notes

'Blackout' viola (Viola cornuta 'Blackout') is a perennial for borders, containers, cottage gardens, and ground cover. It is hardy to USDA zone 6, or down to -10°F (-23°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. The fragrant black flowers open in spring, summer, and autumn, and bees and butterflies visit them. It sits low on the menu for deer and rabbits. The evergreen clumps stay 6 to 9 inches tall.

Pairs well with Foam flower, David garden phlox, and Casa Blanca lily.
