Notes

'Blacksmith' lupine (Lupinus 'Blacksmith') is a perennial. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun. The purple and white flowers open from early to late summer and attract bees. Plant it behind something one foot tall, since lupines go semi-dormant after blooming. Cut it back six inches after flowering to encourage new growth and reblooming.

Pairs well with Picture peony, Pacific Beauty calendula, and Sensitive fern.
