Notes

'Brigadier' peony (Paeonia 'Brigadier') is a shrub for borders, cottage gardens, and specimen planting. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist, loamy soil. Cream blooms with purple and black centers open in early to late spring, and butterflies visit them. It sits low on the menu for deer and rabbits. Derek Irvine bred it.

Pairs well with Lenten rose, First Frost hosta, Jackmanii clematis, and Black Parrot tulip.
