Notes

Brown's peony (Paeonia brownii) is a perennial for woodland gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full sun to part shade and dry to average soil. The small, drooping red flowers open in spring and bring in bees. The bluish-green leaves are fleshy and deeply lobed. Expect a summer rest, since it goes dormant in the hot, dry season.

Pairs well with Western sword fern, Pussytoes, and Switchgrass.
