Notes

'Buccaneer' peony (Paeonia 'Buccaneer') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, cottage gardens, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. The single red flowers are a lighter crimson with yellow anthers, and they are fragrant. Deer and rabbits usually look elsewhere for a meal. Saunders bred it in 1929.

Pairs well with Guacamole hosta, Creeping phlox, Incrediball hydrangea, and Blue grama.
