Notes

'Burgundy' apple (Malus domestica 'Burgundy') is a tree for the food garden, grown for fresh eating, juice, and hard cider. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. The New York State Agricultural Experiment Station bred it in the 1970s. Bees visit the spring blooms, and the tree is not self-fertile, so plant a second apple nearby for pollination.

Pairs well with Lupine, Ocean spray, and Lily of the valley.
