Notes

'Burgundy' peony (Paeonia 'Burgundy') is a perennial for borders, cut flower gardens, and cottage gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. Its fragrant single blooms have blackish-purple petals and bright yellow stamens, and Professor Arthur Percy Saunders bred it. Deer and rabbits usually look elsewhere for a meal. Bees and butterflies visit the flowers.

Pairs well with Pale purple coneflower, Empress Wu hosta, and Blonde Ambition blue grama.
