Notes

California redbud (Cercis orbiculata) is a tree for borders, specimen planting, and pollinator gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 6, or down to -10°F (-23°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Showy flowers cover the twigs in early spring, and bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds visit them. The crown is rounded with many spreading branches. It sits low on the menu for deer.

Pairs well with Blue oak, California poppy, and Fountain grass.
