Notes
'Caligula' peony (Paeonia 'Caligula') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, cottage gardens, and specimen planting. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. Early blooming double flowers are dark red with frilled petals and measure about 6.3 inches across on upright plants that need no support. Deer and rabbits tend to pass it by. Joshua Scholten bred it.
Pairs well with Moonshine yarrow, Standing Ovation little bluestem, and Abiqua Drinking Gourd hosta.
