Notes

Carolina hemlock (Tsuga caroliniana) is an evergreen tree for hedges, privacy screens, and winter interest. It is hardy to USDA zone 6, or down to -10°F (-23°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and average to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. The glossy, dark green needles circle the stem like a bottle brush. It grows in an even pyramid shape, and it is darker green and more compact than Eastern hemlock. It does not tolerate droughty conditions, so keep the soil from drying out.

Pairs well with Autumn fern, Japanese forest grass, and Fragrant Bouquet hosta.
