Notes

Cascade mahonia (Berberis nervosa) is a shrub for borders, ground cover, and low maintenance beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Glossy green leaves have spiny teeth and stay on the plant all year. Drooping yellow flowers are followed by blue berries that birds enjoy. Give it patience, since it is slow to establish.

Pairs well with Salal, Western sword fern, and Ocean spray.
