Notes

'Charioteer' peony (Paeonia 'Charioteer') is a shrub for borders, cottage gardens, and specimen planting. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist, loamy soil. The flat, open blooms are dark crimson with a satiny texture, and they appear in early to late spring. Deer and rabbits usually look elsewhere for a meal. Arthur Percy Saunders bred it in 1949.

Pairs well with Dancing Queen hosta, Green Spice coral bells, and Greig's tulip.
