Notes

'Charon' peony (Paeonia 'Charon') is a perennial for borders, cottage gardens, perennial beds, and specimen planting. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist, loamy soil. Single dark purple flowers with nearly black flares open in early to late spring. It is not a favorite of deer or rabbits, though hungry ones will eat almost anything. Winter-killed stems are quickly replaced by vigorous basal growth.

Pairs well with Earth Angel hosta, Green Spice coral bells, and Grape hyacinth.
