'Chen Shanhong' tree peony (Paeonia suffruticosa 'Chen Shanhong') is a shrub for borders, cut flowers, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. Red single flowers open in early to mid spring and face upward. The new leaves emerge deep red and turn green. It grows upright to about 25 inches tall.
Pairs well with Siberian iris, Carnaval De Nice tulip, and Blue fescue.
