Notes

'Chocolate Chip' peony (Paeonia 'Chocolate Chip') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, and cottage gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. Roy G. Klehm bred it, and each good stem carries one bud that opens to a dark mahogany bloom. It is not a favorite of deer or rabbits, though hungry ones will eat almost anything. Bees and butterflies visit the flowers.

Pairs well with Fire Island hosta, Blonde Ambition blue grama, and White fringe tree.
