'Chūnyǔ' tree peony (Paeonia suffruticosa 'Chūnyǔ') is a shrub for borders, cut flowers, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. It blooms in early to mid spring with single, up-facing, light purple flowers that have a silky gloss. The fragrant blooms are 5 to 8 inches wide. The name refers to its early flowering.
