'Chuzhao' tree peony (Paeonia suffruticosa 'Chuzhao') is a shrub for borders and cut flowers. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. Late in the season, it bears fragrant, double, red-purple flowers that face upward. Each bloom is about 15cm across, and purple flares mark the centers. The upright plant does not need staking.
