Notes

Coastal wood fern (Dryopteris arguta) is a fern for borders, ground cover, and low maintenance beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 7, or down to 0°F (-18°C). This plant likes part sun to full shade and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It stays evergreen and has lacy fronds in stout clusters. Deer tend to pass it by. The creeping, woody rhizome slowly spreads, so give it room.

Pairs well with Coast live oak, Madrone, Ocean spray, and Western sword fern.
