Notes
'Compacta' engelmann spruce (Picea engelmannii 'Compacta') is a tree for specimen, accent, and privacy screen use. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full sun and dry to moist soil. It grows slowly into a dense evergreen, reaching 3 to 6 feet tall and tolerating drought. Deer and rabbits tend to browse other plants first. Its small size suits tight spaces.
Pairs well with Little bluestem, Blazing star, and New Jersey tea.
