Notes

Engelmann spruce (Picea engelmannii) is a tree for woodland gardens and low maintenance landscapes. It is hardy to USDA zone 2, or down to -50°F (-46°C). This plant likes full sun to part shade and average to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Its dark blue-green needles grow on branches that sweep the ground and hide the trunk. Deer tend to browse other plants first. It is slow growing, so give it plenty of room.

Pairs well with Common juniper, Twinflower, Woods rose, and Red fescue.
