Notes

'Crested Surf' painted lady fern (Athyrium niponicum 'Crested Surf') is a fern for shade gardens, borders, and containers. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes part sun to full shade and average to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It has an arching shape and grows 21 to 24 inches tall. It is not a favorite of deer or rabbits, though hungry ones will eat almost anything. It needs little care once planted.

Pairs well with Night Before Christmas hosta, White phlox, and Autumn crocus.
